Martin Humphrys JP, MA (Cantab); PGCE (Cantab)

Martin Humphrys was educated at Chatham House Grammar School Ramsgate and Downing College Cambridge where he obtained joint honours in History and Theological and Religious Studies. At University Martin was President of his College and gained his University 2nd Team Colours for Cricket as well as assisting with the Coleridge Project for the Deaf.

Martin was appointed to Eastbourne College in 1979 to teach history and to run the Crew programme. He then joined the staff at Bedford School in 1983 where throughout his time he became Day and Boarding Housemaster, Master in Charge of Rowing, Head of the Cadet Forces, Head of Political Studies and Marketing Manager.

Also in Bedford Martin became Leader of the largest political group on Bedford Borough Council, was appointed Chairman of the Bedfordshire Committee for the Employment of the Disabled by the Secretary of State, became Chairman of the Kitchin Society (Masters in Charge of Crew programmes of all the major Rowing Schools in the UK) and served on numerous Cadet Force Committees for which he was granted the right by the Ministry of Defence to retain the rank of Squadron Leader in civilian life.

On leaving Bedford Martin took up the role of General Manager of the University of Westminster Student Union – the third largest University in the country in terms of Student numbers and some 13 sites. He then joined a relocation company to run their educational arm before establishing his own educational consultancy.

Martin has acted as Educational Consultant for most members of the Investment Forum (leading banks within the City of London), advises the Association of Relocation Agents on Educational matters, chairs conferences for the London International Schools Association and has advised the State Department (US) of the position of schools here within the UK. Martin is a member of the Institute of Directors. He has a background of nearly thirty years in placing students in both Schools and Universities and is a Member of the Association of Relocation Professionals and European Relocation Association. Martin is also a Professional Member of the Independent Education Consultants Association (ICEA) of the United States and has been named as Relocation Personality of the Year 2009 by the relocation industry.

Martin was awarded a CSV Year of the Volunteer Award for Inspiration, is a Freeman of the City of London and a Member of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames  and The Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights.  Martin is also a Justice of the Peace for England and Wales serving in North London.
